I. General Discussion
A. Paul asked what has been going on at the national level, Jessica and Shirley have not been keeping up nationally, but also have not heard much either.
B. Jessica informed the group she is no longer on the State Steering Committee, a new committe was elected at the State Green Party Convention held in Pittsburgh this past February.
1. No one from Berks County was able to attend.
C. Jessica is continuing to call the Berks Green Registered Voters list, in order to update information, and to spread the word about the Berks Meetings, etc.
1. There are about 834 Greens on this list.
2. Jess - The Berks County Green Party's most important goal right now is getting more people to meetings.
3. Paul - There really needs to be a focus on starting from the grass roots level, that's how Greens can thrive.
D. Need to find out when the next state meeting will be held, should be on the Green PA site.
II. Upcoming Events
A. No one had a calendar in front of them, but the Berks County Greens plan to table on Earth Day in Centre Park.
B. Shirley and Jessica will be able to table.
C. Planning for this event will occur at the next general county meeting.
III. The Need for Candidates
A. Jessica - Having candidates helps bring more people to meetings, unfortunately there are none in Berks County this year.
IV. Voter's Choice Act
A. No major updates on the Act, it still hasn't been entirely introduced.
B. Jessica told Paul to contact Bob Small, who is on the Ballot Access Committee for more updated information.
C. We need to figure out how we can help with the act getting passed, other than contacting our state reps and senators.
V. More General Discussion
A. Paul spoke of Ralph Nader's book, "Only the Super Rich Can Save Us."
B. Paul - PA is on board with single payer health care.
C. The state of the world today, and how people are either duped, or they are indifferent, the Green Party is needed now more than ever.
VI. Pride Fest
A. Paul mentioned this Festival which celebrates Gay Rights, we should consider tabling there.
B. Occurs sometime in the summer at Centre Park, Reading.
A. Paul mentioned BCTV to use as an outlet for Greens, we need to do more with them, everyone agreed.
B. Jessica informed Paul that Dave Kurzweg appeared on Alternative News and Views a few months ago.
C. Paul mentioned his friend, Pete Johnson, who has a show every third Wednesday called Biblomania, and how we should reach out to him and discuss Green issues on his show.
VIII. More Exposure
A. Look into billboards and doing more parades.
B. A Person who could volunteer to be an Event Planner would be very helpful for us.
1. For example, someone who finds out all the events in the area where Greens can table, protest (peacefully), or just to attend and hand out green party brochures.
2. These events would then be posted on our website.
Meeting adjourned at 7:50 PM.
Next monthly meeting to be held at the same location, on April 13th at 7pm.
