Minutes of the Berks Green Party Meeting
September 11, 2012
located inside the Goggle Works
201 Washington St.
Present: Jessica Ashman, Shirley Fisher, David Kurzweg, Mercedes Spradley
Meeting Called to Order: 6:35 PM
A. Jill Stein's Campaign
1. On the PA ballot!
2. Shirley was in contact with Hillary Kane who sent Shirley an email and Shirley brought to meeting
a. How to Help with the Stein/Honkala campagin
i. Organize and coordinate volunteers in your neighborhood
ii. Plan fundraisers
iii. Host a House Party
iv. Distribute Flyers
a. Shirley will do, awaiting email. Also waiting for mail from Hillary to receive buttons.
v. Write letters to the editor
a. Shirley and Jessica plan on doing this.
vi. Make phone calls to potential volunteers and voters.
vii. Take photos and videos of campaign events.
viii. Donate $.
B. Upcoming Events
1. Dave let the group know of important upcoming events
a. Friday, Sept. 14th - Art Show at the Tea Factory behind the Canal Street Pub in Reading.
b. Saturday, Sept. 15th - Berks Peace Council Community Picnic - located at Shillington Park
c. Sat., Sept 15th - Annual West Reading Arts Festival - Penn Ave., West Reading.
i. Dave was unable to get a table for this event.
ii. Dave will help John Murphy campaign at this event, he's the independent candidate for Congress. Jessica will also try to attend.
iii. John Murphy will be attending all events on the 15th.
d. Hispanic Heritage Kick Off - 5:30pm - 8:30pm
e. Constitution Day held at RACC
f. Constitution is 225 years old.
g. October 6th - Community Day Picnic
h. October 21st - Peace and Love March - starts at Riverfront Park and ends at City Park
1. Dave is looking into having John Murphy speak on a Berks County TV show.
2. Occupy Reading - Meets every Tuesday at the Google Works at 6:30 PM
a. Shows Movies, Open Mic once a month
b. Jessica and Shirley plan to attend more meetings.
3. Invite Sherri Honkala to Reading/Berks County events
a. Dave will email Sherri the list of events mentioned above.
b. Would like Honkala to address poverty (Reading is #1 in nation per capita) and her and Stein's campaign.
D. Good Eatz Cafe
1. The former meeting place of the Berks Greens is moving its location, same street, a few blocks down.
2. Will have more meeting space.
3. Berks Greens will still most likely meet at the Goggle works, however.
