Minutes of the Berks Green Party Meeting
October 9, 2012
Cucina Cafe (inside Google Works)
201 Washington St.
Present: Jessica Ashman, Mercedes Spradley, Dave Kurzweg, Ed Carvalho, Nolan Hartzell
Meeting called to Order: 6:42 PM
I. New Attendee
A. Ed became interested in the Green Party after seeing Jill Stein's interview on Democracy Now.
B. Jess updated Ed on BCGP's history and where they stand now, county wide and state wide.
II. Updates from Dave K.
A. Passed out lit. on Jill Stein
B. Passed out an absentee ballot for this coming election.
1. Has a few questions about it, will get answers.
C. He has John Murphy yard signs.
D. Passed out flyer about the Peace and Love March
1. Event where Free food, clothing, live music, activities, etc. are offered.
2. October 21st, 2012, Meetup at Riverfront Park 11am-1pm, then march from Riverfront to City Park (1pm - 2pm) and celebrate in City Park 2pm - 6pm)
3. They will collect non-pershible food, clothing, personal care items.
4. Good event to invite Honkala to speak at, Dave will contact.
5. Also good event for Barks Greens to table at - Dave will look into it.
III. Stein's Presidential Campaign
A. Dave - Reading Eagle still has yet to publish any article about Stein's campaign, or any other 3rd party candidate.
1. Dave plans on speaking with a Reading Eagle reporter that he knows about this issue.
2. Jess volunteered to put more info about Jill Stein's campaign on the Berks County Green Facebook Page, and will contact Matt Cleveland to have him do the same for the Berks website.
B. If Stein gets 5% of the nationwide vote, it will be easier for Greens to run in 2016.
IV. 3rd Party Presidential Candidates Debate
A. To be held in Chicago on October 23rd.
B. Ed asked if we could send a news release to the Reading Eagle about this, we should.
C. Dave would like to put on a web telecasted event for this debate, possible renting the Technology Room at RACC (Reading Area Community College) or at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel.
D. Ed suggested maybe the Reading Museum.
E. Event could be a potluck for bringing food, perhaps have local restaurants donate food.
E. Dave - Reading Eagle would almost have to cover this event.
V. Supporter of Jill Stein facebook page
A. Dave thinks there should be a facebook page for this.
B. It would promote all types of people to support Jill Stein, not just Greens.
C. Hopefully would serve as an outreach to other voters.
A. Stein's campaign is getting close to receiving money from the federal government (Dave).
B. John Hoskins has a show on BCTV and said he will mention Stein's campaign.
VII. Jess's To Do List
A. Jess will contact Berks Greens about Stein's campaign by sending an email to the list.
B. Get Ed on the email list from Chris Robinson, a Philadelphia Green, who sends emails about upcoming campaign events.
C. Make phone calls to the Berks Green list

a. Peach and Love March coming up, 3rd party presidential debate, Stein campaign, Berks County's Meetings info
VIII. Single Payer Forum
A. Dave passed out flyer, October 27th, 7-9 pm..
B. St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 234 East Main St., Kutztown
IX. Occupy Reading
A. Meets every Tuesday, 2nd Floor of Goggle Works in the ACOR Gallery.
1. First Tuesday of the month is the general meeting, 2nd Tuesday is a movie showing, 3rd is an open mic, 4th is another Movie Showing.
