Minutes of the Berks Green Party Meeting
Tuesday, July 9, 2013
The Goggle Works
201 Washington St.
Present: Jessica Ashman, Nolan Hartzell, Justin Hill, Shirley Fisher
Meeting called to order: 6:43 PM
I. Justin Hill seriously considering running for a local office.
A. Talked to Jay Sweeney, chair of the GPPA, and got some good feedback, advice.
B. Plans to go to Election Services to find out more info.
C. Hard to find what positions are open, what are not.
D. Known open positions
2. Planning/Zoning Commission
3. Environmental Advisory Council
a. They meet the 4th Monday of every month, Justin will attend next one coming up this July.
4. Recreation Commission
5. Shade Tree Commission
E. Some positions are volunteer.
F. City Council meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Goggle Works at 7pm to be able to find out more info.
G. Volunteer position or not, one of Justin's main reasons for running is to give more visibility to the Greens.
H. Jessica is contacting Dave Ochmaniwicz to see if he can resend email of all open positions in Berks County that she recalls receiving a few months ago.
II. Shirley will be unable to attend next meeting.
III. Beautify Reading
A. Justin informed us of the mayor's plans (Vaughn Spencer) to put this committee together to help improve the quality of life in Reading.
B. Reading however, is understaffed, and broke.
C. Mr. Spencer wants to create a separate department that would employ people and generate income into the city.
