The April 2009 Minutes submitted by Jessica Ashman:Minutes of the Berks County Green Party Meeting Hard Bean Cafe 6th St. and Penn Ave. West Reading, PA April 12, 2009 Present: Randi Peters, Shirley Fisher, Jessica Ashman Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM. I. Welcome and open discussion A. Jessica gave Randi extra copies of Green Stars to mail. II. Treasurer's Report A. Mercedes Spradley not present to give report. B. Steering Committee Reports (BCGP, GPPA) 1. Jessica updated group on State Meeting, GPPA Steering Committee news. a. Jessica informed group of State Meeting that will be held Sunday, April 19th, at the Ramada Inn in Breezewood. b. Steering Committee working on ways to find candidates, grow the party, and to work on Green Issues. III. Other Reports (Earth Day Reading) A. Good weather, planted many sunflower seeds with children, sold many green party buttons, decent turnout. B. Waiting to hear back from Mercedes of total profit. IV. Bylaws - discuss options A. Much time spent on brainstorming to amend bylaws. B. This is the first draft we came up with. 1. XII. Amendments B. Low General Meeting Attendance Amendment 1. How - to be in effect only in the case of continual limited attendance (under 7 people, which is protocol), and when faced with a decision that has to be made in a timely manner. 2. Why - Continually low attendance numbers, steering committee and general members alike, as a temporary measure to enable the party to make necessary decisions in a timely manner without general meeting input. 3. Core Reliables - New term/defintion given to those members who attend meetings on a regular basis, and communicate effectively by phone and email; CR's can make decisions about, uphold or supercede the bylaws when quorum are not met. C. This draft will be completed by next meeting. These amendments can be found under Ammendments and County Committees in the BCGP bylaws. D. Ammendments must be approved by county committees, and through 2 consecutive meetings. E. Hope this will only be a temporary practice. F. Shirley, Randi, and Jessica will put together a final draft and give members 2 weeks to respond. V. Planning/Events A. Randi plans to hold the BCGP Summer Gathering at her home in Shoemakersville, just waiting to hear back from enough people to see if it'll be worth the time and effort, only a handful are attending thus far. B. Kempton Energy Festival - Sept.18-20 - Jessica and Jay Sweeney to handle arranging a table. VI. Issues A. National -NAIS "Listening Sessions"- Harrisburg, May 14, 9am-4pm Farm Show Complex B. State- Animal Rights - inserting chips in farm animals. 1. Waste of Tax money. 2. Medical waste. C. Local- Issues with local meat farm with how pigs are killed. VII. Upcoming Local Events A. Sept. 18, 19, 20 - 2009 PA Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living Festival; Kempton Community Center, Kempton, PA - A 3 day festival about renewable energy, natural building construction, sustainable agriculture, land-use planning, forestry and healthy living practices in general. VIII. May General Meeting A. To be held May 10, 2009 at 7pm at same location Meeting adjourned at 9:12 pm. Jessica Ashman Recording Secretary |
